Houston building permits June 2012 - Austin Texas real estate

HOUSTON - Residential and nonresidential construction activity slowed in June 2012, but year-to-date permit values remain higher in 2012 than in 2011, according to the City of Houston?s Building Permit Department. Year to date, building permits are up 37.3 percent from $1.6 billion in first half 2011 to $2.2 billion first half 2012.

For the 12 months ending June 2012, building permits totaled $4.3 billion, a 35.1 percent increase over the $3.2 billion in permits issued during the 12 months ending June 2011.

New nonresidential permits totaled $2.8 billion for the 12 months ending June 2012, a 27.0 percent increase from $2.2 billion for the 12 months ending June 2011.

New residential permits grew at a faster rate of 54.5 percent from $926.5 million for the 12 months ending June 2011 to $1.4 billion for the 12 months ending June 2012.
