When the bad weather forces you to keep the kids inside all day, it won?t be long before the refrain of ?We?re bored? begins.? Instead of shaking your fist at the rain, sleet, or snow outside your window, look at this as an opportunity for some quality family time.? Concentrate on all the fun you can have indoors, and enjoy one of these activities together!
Play a board game
Board games are a classic way to pass the time indoors and there are so many games that truly are fun for the whole family.? If your kids are a little older and tired of the same games you?ve had for years, you can all get creative and invent a new game by simply combining some the elements of your existing board games!
Build a fort or pitch a tent
Younger kids will love draping blankets over tables and pulling the cushions off the couch to create a cool fort.? Be a kid yourself and crawl on inside and join the fun!? Another option is to set up your family?s tent in the living room and do a little indoor camping.? Sing songs and tell stories around a pretend campfire and then enjoy some S?mores baked in tinfoil in the oven.
Bake a tasty treat
Baking is one of my favorite ways to spend a bad weather day because the oven heats up the house and makes it feel all toasty!? Most kids love the measuring, pouring, and mixing involved in baking so have the whole family don aprons and make a little mess in the kitchen!
Rearrange a room
A little change in your surroundings can help to battle the winter blahs.? Work together to try out a new furniture configuration in the family room, or have everyone rearrange someone else?s bedroom.? Don?t worry ? you can always change it back if you don?t like it!
Play hide and seek
This game can be just as much fun for adults as for kids.? If you?ve got little ones, stick to using one area of your home as the play space.? If your kids are older, the entire house is fair game!
Go on a scavenger hunt
Entertain your kids by coming up with a few age-appropriate clues that will lead them to various areas of the house.? You can have each clue lead to a different item and have your kids collect all the items to be used for a craft project or as the ingredients for a recipe.? Another option is to have the first clue lead to the second clue and so on until the kids follow the final clue to a special treat.
Do a family art project
Instead of providing art supplies and simply supervising your kids while they create, gather the whole family and make something together.? You could all paint together to create a family mural on a roll of easel paper or collaborate on a scrapbook of family photos!
Take a walk down memory lane
Pull out your old family photos and share some laughs while reminiscing about past events.? Kids love to hear stories about when they were younger so use the photos to illustrate as you tell some tales about your child?s first words, first steps, first birthday, and first day of school.?
